Calling One?

I was thankful for the cold air outside while I headed to Central Park to see if I could ferret out my missing rogue werewolf. Ant was my ever present shadow. He didn’t intrude upon my thoughts. I was visible to the world outside but he wasn’t the shadows obscured him. He was prolific in hiding in plain sight. It was one of his charms. I could ignore him if I wanted to. The purple haze of his existences lost in the night time backdrop. I wasn’t sure if his father or grandfather could do the same thing in the daylight. I might have to ask for a primeval vampire bodyguard for the day time if they could.

Dev was gone. My personal life was going to go to hell in a hand basket with him gone, and it already had. Dee was pissed at everyone. Sage was angry with me. I was starting to think this was the new norm. I loved them, it was overwhelming, but my life spiraled everything we were all together.

I couldn’t really think about it so I sent my senses out looking for were – turned were. Their energy was different than a standard one. Each step I took I could feel more. Each breath I took their energy became one with me. I could find every supernatural creature in New York City and it’s greater area if I tried. I took that moment too to call all the dreamwalker and elemental vampires in New York. I ordered them to the Night Life building. We’d see if it would work.

I felt Ant waver behind me more than I saw him flicker and then he was suddenly beside me. “Fuck, Nox.”

“Sorry.” I said.

“No, I didn’t know I would feel that call.”

“Again, sorry.”

He shrugged. “Can’t call the boy to you?” He asked. “That would make things so much simpler.”

“He’s not wolf.”

Ant laughed, “So? You aren’t vampire.”

“I have no tie like I do to you.”

“Darwynn swore loyalty.” Ant said.

“It’s not the same.”

“Isn’t it. Sheridan and Olmos swore to you. Sage did too.”

“Sage isn’t wolf.” I said.

“No but you feel pack through him too.”

I sighed. “Alright I’ll try. But, we should probably get into a safe place.”

Ant nodded and lead the way. He took his bodyguarding seriously.

We found ourselves ultimately in a forested area of central park – secluded and still safe for a were if seen or spooked. I sat down on the ground and buried my fingers in the leaves that had collected. It was cold still but I could feel the warmth of the earth and I let myself go to the earth. It was safe, it was home. I felt the scars on it’s surface that humanity had caused it and I felt nauseated. I jerked my hands from the earth and sighed before sticking my fingers back into the dirt and leaves and sent my power into it looking for turned or half turned were’s.

I couldn’t pin point him alone. I could feel were all over. I didn’t know how to call just one.

I let go of the power and I looked at Ant. “If I call him to me, they’ll all come.”

Ant snickered. “What, you don’t want a convergence of turned therians?”

I shook my head. “Do you?”

He shook his head. “What do you want to do?”

“I guess we’ll go look at each one?” I said as I stood up.

“That could take forever.” Ant groaned.

“You got plans?”

Ant looked up at the sky. “Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Don’t you need to find Matt?”

“I can call him.” I said and pulled my phone out and dialed his number.

He answer. “Hey Nox. I take it you heard?”

“I did.” I sighed. “You okay?”

“Grand. Chris and I are downstairs having some ice-cream. Andrew I walked home and now we are going to go home. It is okay right?”

“Yeah. If she gives you shit. Stay with Ryan till I get home.”

“Where you at?” He asked.

“Looking for Rob.”

“I bet she’s pissed.”

“Yep. Sage is too.”

“Boy, aren’t you a popular.”

“I need you home Matt.”

“You just use me.” Matt joked.

“Is that how you feel?” I asked feeling a little dejected. I know my voice showed the sorrow and self depreciation.

“You know I’m joking. I’d be lost without you Nox. So would Drake and Fae. We are on your side always.” Matt reassured me. Wasn’t it supposed to be the other way around.

“I don’t want you to think I’m using you. If I am you need to put me straight.”

Matt laughed. “Nox, of all the people in my life, you are the least likely to use me for personal gain.”

“That might not always be the case, Matt. All this power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, isn’t that the saying?”

Matt sighed. “I’ll call you out on it, I promise Nox. Now I got to go, Chris is going to eat my ice-cream.”

“Take care of them Matt.”

“Always. Morana will be awake soon, you want me to bring her something from Central?”

“Yeah, Chris knows enough, might as know you have an 8 year-old vampire sister whose been alive for a few hundred years.”

Matt laughed. “Stay safe Nox. I can’t do this without you.”

“Right back at you.” I said and hung up the phone. It wasn’t so much an I love you. But it was as close as we were both willing to get at this point. The age difference was a barrier we had a hard time dealing with in a few years that 5 year difference was going to become null and void. And this world was fucked up I didn’t want Matt taken away because of some societal notion that wasn’t true.

And so I started searching New York City for one rogue were.
