The Riva Contingency

The Great Elovars (8/15/2022) - The boat finally docked and Else had closed her trap long enough for us to disembark The Cardiff, but that didn’t stop her from flirting with every sailor as we left. It had been a long trip, but she was at least decent company. Not that there weren’t a few attractive men to bed down with.
Clever Girl (8/16/2022) - “I’ll miss you most.” she said, wrapping her arms around Captain Hellsway. He was a young sailor who inherited the ship from his father the only way pirates know how — by killing the man. It was over some treasure, but the men all knew the truth of the matter Senior Hellsway was getting too old for this shit.
Changeling (8/17/2022) - t wasn’t hard sneaking aboard the Cardiff. And it wasn’t hard changing my appearance as the days stayed off their stow away radar. I was just another crew member or a ghost they thought they saw.
A Whole New World (8/18/2022) - This was a strange new world. The colors were so vibrant, yet the town’s folk he’d talk to said the opposite. Everything was so drab and boring. Back home there was no color, unless you counted shades of gray color.
Haunted One (8/19/2022) - It was so real. Like it was only yesterday when I opened my eyes and found the broken and bloodied body of my mother. The only person I knew in my entire life, and the woman who locked me up for my safety. At least that was what she said as she spat in my food and shoved it through the grate in the door.
Siren’s Call (8/22/2022) - It was probably best to find a room. The guild would provide for one, but Rosana hoped to not be in the area for long, find the kid with the recipe and be gone by nightfall. At least, that was the plan. Ashbourne was not a place she wanted to be.
Prestidigitation (8/23/2022) - Such a fool. Miranda watched al’Zand leave his post on the stage to chase after some ruffian. Things were replaceable. He had his lute, that’s all he needed. She’d miss the cute little outfits she’d brought, but some other person might love them more. Miranda kept all her prized possessions on her body at all times. This was nothing new. He’d learn, one way or the other.
Beautiful Creatures (8/24/2022) - The thief darted into the back halls and out into the alley behind the Inn. I followed at top speed, bouncing into the walls on a sharp corner, cracking whatever weakened rot fill board I’d landed against. “Fuck!”
Catch a Theif (8/25/2022) - The city was fabulous. I hadn’t found who I was looking for. But then I hadn’t even bothered to stop and ask either. The sun sank in the sky. The moon rose and the feeling of home settled upon the land. It was comforting in the grays and the despair from the Leech, while only a fraction of what was home, made Ashbourne all that more familiar.
Desperate Times (8/26/2022) - I was so tired. But the thought of running out of Tranquil drove me into the city and into the disparate locations where I might find a Boggle. In my mother’s prison, Boggle’s came to me. I might not be so lucky so far from the Leech. It felt less here, but when darkness descended upon the city I felt the walls closing in on me.
Slim Pickens (8/29/2022) - al’Zand hadn’t returned and Miranda was parched. She took a break, much to the house’s regret. The crowd spit and spewed words she dared not repeat — not from a lady. She scoffed in her mind.
Cold Fire Burns (8/30/2022) - I needed to chase after my things, but I couldn’t pull myself away from those eyes. The slim face that held them looked underfed and hollow. He winced as he moved away, but he never broke my gaze.
A Boy with a Recipe (8/31/2022) - Rosana ordered whatever was on the special. Turned out to be some sort of stew that looked horrible, but tasted much better.
Fitting Punishment (9/1/2022) - The Raven Queen didn’t care about one’s misdeeds as most other gods and goddesses, but she cared about how you felt about it yourself. Never take shame in your actions. Stand proud and follow in your path no matter where it guides you. And today Alushtas’ path lie in front of a thief carrying things that did not belong to him.
Don’t Hurt It (9/2/2022) - Blue eyes stared at me. My side aches and I found it hard to breathe. Whether it was from the blow or from the intense state of the man in front of me, I didn’t know. He was beautiful.
Helping Rosana (9/6/2022) - The red head was wary of her advances and Miranda understood. New city — new dangers. But this woman looked like she could handle herself. And after she offered to help, the woman looked at Miranda with even more caution. A devastating smile swept across Miranda’s lips and she winked with a seductive lick of her lips.
Taking Help (9/6/2022) - Rosana nodded. “I’m looking for a boy about sixteen. Half elf who creates a very special elixir that apparently he brews from Boggle oil. You wouldn’t know where any boggles are?”
A Friend in Me (9/7/2022) - I looked at him with pleading eyes. I could feel my lip quivering. The man with the blue eyes stared back at me. “Please, don’t let him kill the boggle.”
Fate (9/8/2022) - Fate had a way of bringing people together. I recognized the pack carried by the man at the end of the alley. He dropped our things as he picked up the gross-looking creature, but it was the way the beautiful boy pleaded with me and the other man’s voice pervading my thoughts. Here he was hurt, and begging and looking out for a vile creature.
That Simple? (9/9/2022) - The boggle spoke with the boy fluent in Sylvan. Their conversation was interesting. Why would the boy need boggle oil? And oddly enough, he looked like his father, the same shape of eyes, the pallor of his skin. It had been a while since Alushtas had seen Riva, but there was no mistaking his father’s makeup. Would it be this simple to find his half brother?
Coincidences Be Damned (9/12/2022) - The stars aligned. Or it was all a bunch of coincidences rolled into one. Miranda jumped up at the sight of three men walking in. The bright blue-eyed man sighed heavily as she approached, but he offered her a bag and more instruments and Miranda clapped her hands.
Lighting a Spark (9/13/2022) - Miranda immediately fell into her lie of their nuptials and it annoyed the fuck out of me. The boy in my arms didn’t react favorably to the news. He’d fallen a little. Maybe it was just the chills getting to him finally.
Half Brother Found (9/14/2022) - Alushtas followed the men folk to the table. The boggle helped himself to bread delivered to the frail looking boy who could only be his half brother. In the dim light of the inn he didn’t doubt it anymore.
Conversations (9/16/2022) - The food was hot and passable. Zand seemed a little less concerned after I told him why I was cold, but not much. He made sure I ate and growled a little under his breathe when Oog ate one of the loaves of bread. I couldn’t eat it anyway. I would probably make myself sick with this much food all at once. This was like a whole’s days worth of food.
Moving On… (9/16/2022) - The boys were having an exhausting talk. Though the insider information that the handsome knight looking man’s name was amusing. Miranda didn’t want to giggle, but she felt the same as ae’Nyx. It was a silly play on words. And he would thus be called Rain from here on out — apparently ae’Nyx thought so too.
What’s the Game? (9/19/2022) - Miranda wouldn’t take no for an answer. She ushered us all up the stairs and into their very spacious room. I didn’t have time to protest and when I opened my mouth Miranda just smiled and pressed a finger to my lips., leaned in and whispered, “We all want something here.”
Deepening Sadness (9/20/2022) - His eyes were bewitching me. I couldn’t think about anything else. Miranda ushered us off and I didn’t protest. She was getting bossy. No more bossier than usual but it was starting to irk me.
Curing the Sadness (9/21/2022) - There was a darkening of Zand’s eyes. He smiled and his eyes smiled when he looked at me, but the despair of the Leech fell upon some quicker than others.
Feelings… (9/22/2022) - al’Zand was being a prick. Well not really. Just wasn’t playing along. But Rosana was easy t o manipulate — easy to toy with so she did. That was her thing after all. al’Zand was too occupied with the boy.
Sleep (9/23/2022) - What an interesting group! So much fun.
Into Dreamland (9/26/2022) - ae’Nyx handed him the vial and then pretended to go to sleep. It was a feint of embarrassment or anxiousness but I held the vial in my fingers and watched the slow change in ae’Nyx’s breathing. The rise and fall of his chest slowed to sleep and he was taken into oblivion.
Hands on (9/27/2022) - The vial was the only thing that Rosana had eyes for. The murky mixture smelled of herbs. She watched al’Zand carefully but it didn’t seem to have any visible effects.
Dreaming of My Queen (9/29/2022) - Sleep came and so did the dreams. And for once Alushtas was more than grateful to relay the message.
Pissed Off and Following (9/29/2022) - When noone fell for her dramatics Miranda was more upset than she had pretended to be. Never once had her attempts to manipulate a man failed so spectacularly as they had just then. al’Zand had only eyes for the boy — they all did and it irked her beyond recognition.
Nightmares (9/30/2022) - Sleep didn’t immediately take me. It never did. I had learned long ago to fake sleep so my mother wouldn’t hurt me, or make things worse. I felt the eyes on me. All those eyes watching me, and only one set seemed at all to care. And only one I cared about.
Changeling (10/3/2022) - Down the stairs and out into the night, Rosana ran. It wasn’t exactly fleeing, but she had what she needed and the boy didn’t matter.
Renewed Vigor (10/4/2022) - Miranda followed Rosana until she slipped down the dark alleyway. The darkness obscured her vision, but the woman just vanished from sight.
Missing Compatriots (10/5/2022) - The boys slept and Alushtas fell into a soft slumber himself. The women never returned. No footsteps padded across the floor in the middle of the night. The world woke with a new dawn and Alushtas was awake with the crowing of the far off rooster.
The Cursed Morning (10/6/2022) - Rain woke me up kicking my feet and I groaned with pain. “Ow. My fucking head.” I curled up in my bedroll again
The Missing Vial (10/7/2022) - Where is it? Where the fuck is it? I searched everything. Zand was hurting, but the pain would fade, but the despair returned stronger than the prior day and he was fighting it. That was the worst thing to do when the madness came.
New Power (10/10/2022) - Miranda’s thoughts ranged from how she could extract revenge on al’Zand, how to find Rosana again, or should she even, why did she care to how she could free her self from her patron?
Missing Compatriots (10/11/2022) - Miranda came stomping in and ae’Nyx didn’t answer his question. Though Miranda was grumpy and she felt different. A bit darker then when she came. Alushtas just shrugs.
Research (10/12/2022) - It wasn’t hard to find the guild house. It wasn’t too far from the Sacred Horses. After insuring that his follower had been evaded Hadril made his way into the confines of the guild house of the Macabre Genesis. The building was a three story discreetly set building along the main drag of the Dock District.
Angel (10/13/2022) - al’Zand curled up tighter into his bedroll clutching his head. The pain had subsided, but the conversation behind him ate at his conscious. He had messed up something. Something was wrong. Ghosts and darkness ebbed and flowed at his perpherials.
