Ashbourne

The weather is still cold, but it’s slowly getting warmer with Spring well on its way. The day light hours are as long as those of the night, but the nights are getting shorter. In the Wellsorrow Region, the Shadowfell despair is fading in its cycle. The people of Ashbourne and surrounding areas are feeling happier and it’s easier to shake the despair, and harder to fall under its influence. There is a half moon in the night sky tonight.

Shadowfell Despair Check: DC 9/15

The thief darted into the back halls and out into the alley behind the Inn. I followed at top speed, bouncing into the walls on a sharp corner, cracking whatever weakened rot fill board I’d landed against. “Fuck!”

But I didn’t have time to worry about the damage as I sped out the door into the darkness. I looked up and down the alley to find my target and I sprinted after him. He would not get away from me.

He rounded a corner, and I followed in hot pursuit. He jumped over the ardent flames and threw aside the zibelline linen hanging in the middle of the alley as we raced through a residential section of the Dock district. The entire city was asleep, or it felt like it. The darkness had descended upon the day somewhere between entering the Inn and this moment and it was almost suffocating. Why was I even doing this?

A small thought spurred me on. My good luck charm was in my backpack? As I thought to still my feet and check, a black blur bolted out in front of me followed by something much slower and I crashed into the larger dark cloaked creature and tumbled to the ground face first. The sound of a cricket in the nearby shadow gave me a thought. A whimper came from the felled creature behind me, and I looked to find a pair of the most amazing set of eyes I had ever seen — a golden brown with dark flecks of purple glowing with their own light. A hood framed the creature’s face and I couldn’t make out the features.

I didn’t have time for this. My things….

    I’m voting for #1. (Because I’m curious.)
