Ashbourne

The weather is still cold, but it’s slowly getting warmer with Spring well on its way. The day light hours are as long as those of the night, but the nights are getting shorter. In the Wellsorrow Region, the Shadowfell despair is fading in its cycle. The people of Ashbourne and surrounding areas are feeling happier and it’s easier to shake the despair, and harder to fall under its influence. There is a half moon in the night sky tonight.

When noone fell for her dramatics Miranda was more upset than she had pretended to be. Never once had her attempts to manipulate a man failed so spectacularly as they had just then. al’Zand had only eyes for the boy — they all did and it irked her beyond recognition.

But soon the men were all asleep and Rosana was quietly in a corner. Miranda watched as the woman examined the vial of goo she’d confinscated. But soon Rosana was slipping out into the darkness of the inn.

Miranda set herself to follow.

Sleep came and so did the dreams. And for once Alushtas was more than grateful to relay the message.

The dreams were of home. The muted grays of his homeworld were dull in comparison to this bright and shiny one and he had no intention of returning to the dullness once his mission completed. At least he hoped his mistress would let him remain.

In the dim light of the shadowy realm his queen came to him with her creepy whispers in his head. “Alushtas Maskan what news have you brought me?”

Alushtas bowed before the Raven Queen though she was little more than a voice in his head while he dreamt of home and the darkness it held inside. “I have found him.”

Images of the Raven Queen rubbing her hands togethered peirced his mind, she was eager to have the boy.

But Alushtas continued, “But there is another with him.”

Fury raged in his mind shattering any control he might have had.

“Bring them to me!”

Alushtas cowered before his mistress and made himself as low as possible to avoid her wrath, the wrath tha was in his head, but still old habits were hard to break. “It is not that easy. He is with others — others who have an interest in him. They will notice if he disappears. But I have a plan. And I will bring him to you. But it may not be quick. You have to trust me, my queen.”

The Raven Queen growled and was gone from his mind. Alushtas came back to the light of the Material Plane and rolled over in his bedroll to check that the boy still slumbered. He tossed and turned in his own bedroll under the watchful gaze of Zand. It would have been difficult to steal the boy away from this place, and nearly impossible with his new watchful guardian.

Time was a finicky thing, it was a good thing the Shadar-kai lived longer than these mere humans and half-elves.

The vial was the only thing that Rosana had eyes for. The murky mixture smelled of herbs. She watched al’Zand carefully but it didn’t seem to have any visible effects.

Everyone else slipped off to sleep but Rosana sat by a candle in the far corner of the room studying the vial. But she didn’t have the proper set up to investigate properly.

But she wrote a letter to the guild. It wouldn’t be hard to find someone to send it without alerting her current group. She was essentially alone right now. She could sneak off in the night and find the Macabre Genesis house.

You can vote: Should Rosana sneak away from the group?

ae’Nyx handed him the vial and then pretended to go to sleep. It was a feint of embarrassment or anxiousness but I held the vial in my fingers and watched the slow change in ae’Nyx’s breathing. The rise and fall of his chest slowed to sleep and he was taken into oblivion.

Miranda’s soft breath in the far bed could be heard above the sounds of Rain getting ready for bed. Rosana’s eyes never left the vial in my hand.

She watched and waited. “Just a swallow, like he did.” She said. “You have no idea what it will do.”

I sighed and took a swallow. It tasted a bit floral, it wasn’t disgusting as the color suggested. It tingled on my tongue and left a strange coating but was quickly washed away with a bit of water from my skin.

Rosana looked at me and held o ut here hand. “Can I have that?”

I looked at her strangely but handed it to her. She didn’t take a swallow but carried it carefully to the light and started examining it. All her attention was on the vial now. I laid my bedroll down next to ae’Nyx and watched him sleep as I felt better than I had since we arrived.

My eyes fluttered close as I let thoughts of the boy lying next to me drove me into sleep. Those big eyes with purple shining flecks lulling me into endless dreams of happiness.

What an interesting group! So much fun.

The whole day was fabulous. Though a crying woman was hardly good for any day. But that wasn’t his problem at the moment. There was a fear in the boy, and there was a sense of dread that hung around him. There was more than just being Shadar-kai half-elf son of their father. He was an old soul — had an old soul.

It was time for bed and I left the other three to do whatever. I could sleep anywhere.

al’Zand was being a prick. Well not really. Just wasn’t playing along. But Rosana was easy t o manipulate — easy to toy with so she did. That was her thing after all. al’Zand was too occupied with the boy.

As a matter of fact they all seemed a bit preoccupied with him. What the fuck?

As Miranda was about to get up her head flopped to the bed and she watched a portal wink out as the little shit creature curled up on the pillow next to the boy.

Miranda clambered out of the bed and stomped over to the boy. “You keep your fucking little pet in line.”

Everyone stared up at her with wide eyes. All but the disrobing knight in shining armor he laughed and put his hand on her shoulder. “I’d revise your plan of action. The worst thing you can do is react to a boggle’s antics. It’s like telling a toddler no — they only want to do it more.” He leaned in, “And really threatening the boy is only petty. He’s pretty than you are,” whispered into her ear.

Miranda growled and stomped over to the farthest bed, threw back the covers and climbed into bed. “I’m going to bed — alone.” Miranda rolled over with her back to the others and wiped away the silent tears.
