Our Life

I was excited for Dev. I mean really excited, our New Years Eve party had been a great night, but it had been spectacular for Dev and the boys. Deviated Skeptics had been seen by an music agent. He offered to sign them to his company then and there. They took the deal, and Manson Ray has been in and out of TCP Investigations for a month straight getting the guys local gigs, trying to get them to a label. They’d started recording in the new studio. I was excited for Dev. Things were finally happening for him.

I found my boy in our room – just the place I needed to be. He was lying on the bed tapping his feet to a song in his ear buds. His baby blues light up when he saw me and he smiled. “Hey pretty boy. Care to join me?”

I frowned. “I’d love to but I can’t. I have a Date to get ready for, and Manson is here in the conference room waiting for you. He looked excited when I passed by.”

Dev sat up and pulled his ear buds out and he gracefully stood up from the bed – meaning he rolled across the bed to the side I was on and stood up kicking is feet over the edge first. I rolled my eyes and he wrapped his arms around me. “You going out again?”

I nodded. “Dancing with Dee. I have to put on a monkey suit.”

Dev groaned softly. “Make sure she takes you out of it for me.”

I laughed. “You could take me out of it.”

Dev sighed. “Dee’s claimed you tonight. No monkey business for us. Besides Sage and I are having a Star Wars marathon with the boys. There will be popcorn, candy, soda-pop and pizza involved. Nothing you’d like anyway.”

“Nothing except my family. Where’s Morana going to be?”

“Victor is taking her out for more training. She was highly pissed off when Victor told her last night she wanted to join us.”

“So let her. Victor can take her out Saturday night when we have all those humans in our house.”

Dev nodded. “I guess.”

I shrugged. “I’ll have Jin talk with him for me.”

Dev grinned. “Big boss man.”

I stuck my tongue at him and he laughed. “Sage would make you pay for that.”

I stuck my tongue at him again and he kissed me hard instead. I hummed against his lips before I pushed him away. “Go see Manson before he thinks you ran away. I have to get ready before Jin comes in here and see us making out.”

Dev laughed, “Again.”

I nodded, “Again. You are too distracting.”

Dev laughed again but this time he pressed a kiss to my cheek and left the room closing our door behind him leaving me in the sublime calm of our bedroom. There were perks to being boss. Granted they weren’t all great, but the idea that nothing was ever out of place was a novel thing for me. Cari hired a housekeeper just for me. When Il Cane hired this company she said and i quote, “The same person will come, at the same time everyday and will place every object back in the appropriate space without question.” Sage still enjoyed rearranging things, but I rarely saw it because this woman who came in – her name was Amanda, she had impeccable memory and knew where everything went. She had to have a photographic memory. I hadn’t really had a chance to ask her since anytime I talked to a woman Dee went off the deep end. But she was able to flirt and fuck any guy she wanted – so hey no double standards here. Not that our girl was sleeping outside the circle. At least not that any of us knew. Dev said she wasn’t hiding anything like that. And I trusted him.

And this had become our Life. Sage worked in his little computer room in his personal space. The computer set up we had out here was nice, but Sage’s was better. He slept in there too many nights, Dev and I dragged him out more often than we liked to count. If he wasn’t in there with Adam, he was sleeping with Dee in her room. We rarely got him to ourselves these days. Dee was monopolizing him. I missed him, but he was distant with me. And Adam was always lingering. I don’t know what was up with him but I wasn’t going to spy on my lovers brother just because he gave me a bad vibe.

I got ready in the suit Dee had bought me to go waltzing in. I hated shopping and she’d dragged me to three separate stores before she found one she liked. I just went with it. I did have to admit I looked hot in it.
