History

(childhood) Orphaned under Dying Stars — Nox was born under twin stars dying. A three day stretch of mystical energies bathing the earth and cracking the veil that keeps magic hidden from the world.

Nox’s mother was of the Gemini bloodline — a Sussuri witch bloodline where twins were always born. A singleton like Nox was rare, but his mother was not a practitioner and left the coven when she was of age and forsake any connections to that world, changing her name and scattering into the woods where she gave birth to the boy alone under the dying stars bathed in chaotic wild magic altering the boys innate magic.

Story Note: Nox’s father, Kai Viddens, was a Venatori hunter, his mother fled from him when she found out she was pregnant with a single boy. Kai has latent Phoenix blood.

Nox was found by an anonymous source, in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, crying and starving from 3 days without sustenance — his magic the only thing keeping him alive.

(adolescent) Bounced Around the System — Nox was given to a fire-house safe harbor program in New York City. Where he was entered into the system with case number N0x-Kn19h7-1123. It was the only thing that never changed when he was a baby. Each family that took the strange glowing orange-eyed kid with strange red hair and slightly pointed ears in to care for always gave him a new name and then returned him with in a year — he was just too different and weird things always happened around him.

When Nox was four years old and his new foster parents wanted to give him a new name while doing the paperwork in the middle of the fostering agency he said, “That’s my name.” The agent told him, “No that’s your case number.” He shook his head. “It says Nox Knight. That’s my name.” After a second glance she nodded, “It’s there. Weirdly enough.”

Nox never stayed with any one family long enough to go to school for long. His education was disrupted many times over and he the only thing really getting him through his day to day was his innate pattern recognition.

(experience) **Something In the Dark & Recurring Terror **— One coping mechanism Nox developed early was drawing his dreams, and anything else that caught his fancy. He had no formal training in it, but he got pretty good at it as the years went on.

From an early age Nox always woke with nightmares, he slept little for most of his life and relied on coffee even as a young boy.

(experience) Hail Marco — At 15, Nox tried to run away from his foster home. He found himself outside Fioré where the owner and chef corralled him and brought him into the kitchen and taught him to cook and gave him a job. Nox has done everything from washing dishes to his current position as a sous-chef.

Story Note: Dorian Vega was following up on an report that was followed and found the young boy loitering outside his partner’s restaurant, instead of filing his report he talked Marco into putting the boy to work to keep him out of trouble.

(young adult) Aged Out — Nox aged out of the system at 18 and spend the first few months homeless on the street trying to make ends meet. He first found a tattoo shop looking to hire and auditioned with a drawing a customer absolutely loved.

It wasn’t enough to get his own place, but now he had some cash. And he still had his job at Fioré. And he picked up another as a barista at one of his favorite coffee shops. He spent many nights on Marco and Dorian’s couch while he saved up money for his first down payment to a shitty apartment. And then things went better from there on out.

He was able to move into a better place in Hell’s Kitchen where he can do his art, cook and is within walking or subway distance of all his favorite places.
