Silver Tube

The thing. Or was it more the blob? Whatever it was was dead. We came away no worse for wear. The thing moved slowly enough that we could stay away from it. But it really seemed to like Alex there at the end. It was amusing seeing him covered in goop. Though Nox didn’t let him suffer long.

We all searched the cavern and found some trinkets and useful things. Nox carried a silver tube like thing with lights and buttons. It didn’t looked like it worked.

“Looks like a light saber.” Alex commented.

A smile grew across Nox’s lips. “I’m not sure but its giving off vibes from different shifts. But it doesn’t work.” Nox examined the tube closer. “It’s too dark in here. “The light by the water is better.”

“Scythe is a water outpost isn’t it?” Alex said. “Makes sense. But what’s up with that kid?”

“Maybe we can find out now, if they trust us.” Ryan said.

“I just want to go home.” Ant said.

“Me too.” Alex agreed. “But I can’t. So suck it up.”

Ryan snickered. Nox was oblivious to things around him as he headed into the other part of the cavern and stopped in a pool of sunlight. “It looks like a latch here.” He popped it open and shook it. A small yellowish crystal slide out. “Depleted.”

“That looks like those we saw coming in.” Ryan said.

“We can try.”

“I think we need to be careful.” Nox shivered. “I think there’s more to them than what we can see.”

“There always is.”

“What’s it do?” Alex asked.

“Don’t know yet.” Nox said. “But it does us no good if we can’t power it up. Let’s go back and get a crystal.”

Ryan pointed to an obvious exit. “Or we can go that way. I think I see that dim glow I saw when we walked in the cavern before the crystals.

Ryan went first this time. Mostly because he was already walking towards it. We walked through a small crevice. Nox shivered as we passed over the threshold. “Magic.”

Ryan looked back at us before we crossed through and sighed. “You think they’d mark it.”

“Probably do when they need to fetch water.” I said.

“Magic,” Nox said. We were all through and he placed his hand where we had come through. “Solid. Probably has some sort of key.”

“Those look like what we want”. Alex said pointing to the crystal rocks jutting from the walls a few meters away. Ryan was the first one out and he was closest and touched the crystal nearest to him.

There was a strong gust of wind, a howl that inspired fear and an apparition appeared meters away from Ryan.

Horror filled my heart. Rage and blood and images of the dead lying on the ground in front of me. Ryan, my mother, my new found friends. Everyone I had ever loved and my hunger was not satiated. I growled. Feeling the rage coil and burn inside of me. I stood frozen and the horrors wracked my body.
