Alex
Max’s dad was asleep on the couch and Max tip toed past him and turned off the TV and cleared away the empty bottles before heading into the kitchen. I reached in my back pocked to call my own parents and let them know I was safely at Max’s house for the night after the party, and found it wasn’t in my pants. I looked around the floor and didn’t find it, “Fuck!”
Max walked into his room with two sodas and a bag of popcorn, “What?”
“I left my phone at the party?”
Max snickered, “Do you know where?”
I looked at my dumb ass friend for a moment with a stare I wished would kill him. “I only went one place it could have fallen out of my pocket.”
“Nox’s room.” Max laughed, “All naked and ass in the air.” I punched him in the arm and he dropped the bag of popcorn. “Ouch, that hurt.” He handed me his old school phone, “Well call it just to make sure. We can go back and get it if he has it.”
And that was what I did, and now the very same pretty boy was talking to me on my phone in his bedroom where I had just been fucked by his best friend. Fuck! I wasn’t disappointed in him, surprised that he cared enough to say anything, and I didn’t want him to know how much I did know about him, how much I’d fucking gotten off on being in his room. The thought of having him behind me instead of Drew was making me hard again listening to his voice.
I sighed and pushed away those thoughts, “I don’t know. I should come get it.”
Nox’s voice was muffled, “We can meet…” he paused a moment and his voice was clear as he continued, “at City park. My dad grounded me, and I don’t want you to get in trouble for getting your phone. We can do it tomorrow, or tonight. Doesn’t matter to me.”
“What happened that you got grounded?” I asked. Stupid me caring what happened at the party that made him lose his freedom.
“It was nothing, Just my Dad found out the cold hard truth and he doesn’t like it.”
“What? He find out like boys?” I joked.
“Exactly that. You saw the picture, so did he.”
“What picture?” I asked and Max shrugged sitting on his bed listening intently to our conversation munching on popcorn and sipping at his grape soda.
“That’s right, you were in my room with Drew when it happened and I have your phone. You’ll see it when I give it back to you.” He said.
“You knew I was with Drew?”
He chuckled softly, “I know every guy Drew is with, specially when it’s with Mandy. Mandy likes to talk. But Drew asked if it was alright.”
“I…. “I stammered, “I don’t know what to say to that.”
“Nothing to say. I’m sure you make them happy or they wouldn’t keep coming back to you.” He said, “So when do you want to get your phone.”
“You sure you want to break your Dad’s rules?”
“I’m not the good little boy you think I am.” Nox said almost like he was angry.
“I…” I decided that it didn’t matter, if he wanted to get in trouble that was his problem not mine, I wanted my phone back, “Tonight. City Park, by the swings?”
“Sounds good. I’ll be there.” He said and hung up. I was pretty sure he was pissed off at something.
Max was looking expectantly at me when I handed him the phone, “So you are gonna ditch me for him?”
I rolled my eyes, “You are coming with aren’t you?”
“Absolutely.” He stood up handing me the Coke he’d brought for me. “It’s the last one. You sure you want me to come with you?” Max asked.
“Why wouldn’t I? It’s not like a date, I’m just getting my phone.”
Max shrugged, “You get to be alone with him.” Max suggested.
“As if that matters, he’s only coming to give me my phone.”
We suck out of the house, trying not to wake Max’s dad. It wouldn’t be the first time I was sent home because of it. He always conviennetly forgot that Max had asked for someone to stay over. And Max always got the raw end of that stick. Some days he wouldn’t make it to school the beating was so bad. Sometimes I wished Max would come live with me, but he was too proud and he didn’t know what would happen to his dad if he left. So I didn’t press the issue.
The park wasn’t too far away from either of their places. We had a little father to walk than he did, but it wasn’t too bad. We’d start school next week and then we’d all be back in the grind of things. I really needed to help Max this year, neither of us wanted to stay another year in this shit hole of a town. My parents thought I was gonna stay and work the grocer but I had no intentions of doing that. My grades were shit but I could find a job doing whatever even if it was some gross job like garbage man. I wasn’t going to stick around here.
The whole park was dark, it probably wasn’t the best place to go meeting people you hardly knew. Max chuckled softly, “This is almost like a scary movie. I can hear the audience saying, don’t go to the swings it’s a trap.”
I laughed. “You think Nox is going to rip our heads off or something?”
Max chuckled, “No, but there is some psycho in the trees luring us out here in the middle of the night gonna chop our heads off with a chain saw.”
We approached the swings and saw a lone figure sitting in one, his long legs curled up underneath him as he used them for leverage to push himself in the swing like we used to do as kid. It was awkward watching him swing back and forth, we were way too big for those swings. Max leaned against the last light pole and I walked over to the kid swinging like no one was watching, and other than me and Max no one was.
He saw me coming and dragged his feet on the ground to stop himself. He hung in the seat and waited until I was close to pull my phone out of his back pocket and handed it to me. “Here ya go.” He said with a smile. “I didn’t do anything other than answer Max’s call.”
“Wouldn’t have mattered anyways.” I said as I unlocked it with my thumb and opened the missed text message I’d gotten from dipshit Jace. The picture was clearly faked. “Your dad saw this?”
He looked up from the swing and nodded. “Yeah. Hell of way to find out your son is gay.”
“But this is clearly faked.”
He nodded. “And I didn’t deny it in front of everyone so my Dad jumped to the obvious conclusion. I must be sucking someone’s cock somewhere.”
I cocked my head to the side and looked at him, “Are you?”
If the light was better I’d have sworn he had blushed, but I couldn’t really tell for sure. “I wish.” He said and stood up, unfolding from that swing with ease and I was ready to drop to my knees to see what he had to suck. But I clamped my mouth shut and took a deep breath. Fuck, I needed some relief.
“I’m sure now that your dad knows, you can have a boyfriend. Instead of your pretend girlfriend.”
“Who broke up with me to be with the dipshit who sent the picture. Perfect for me.” He put his hand on my shoulder with a bright smile and pulled out his phone. He dialed quickly and my phone started ringing. “Pretty Boy” popped up on my phone and I looked across at him holding my phone close to my chest so he didn’t see I already had his number in my phone. Not that I’d ever tried to call him.
His smile brightened, “Now you have my number.” He turned to leave.
I called after him, “How’d you get my number? My phone was locked.”
Nox turned and grinned, “I called Drew,” he said and turned away. Fuck!
I went to Max who was now standing straight and waiting on me. He had a shit eating grin on his face – all too happy to comment, “You have his number now. What ya gonna do with it?”
I sighed, “Same thing I’ve been doing with it since I stole it from Drew’s phone.” I said, why did he give me his number?
