And yet another picture I can’t think of anything to write about. To spill my guts about. I did the beach thing already. I’ve done a traveling one. Retirement?
I don’t think I’ll retire – I don’t think I’ll live long enough to get old and gray and hobble around on a cane and retire from my job. Most Venatori hunters do not.
My father and his partner Emilio Vega are some of the oldest hunters I know of, and they are only in their 50s. And I’m fairly certain neither of them are going to stop hunting anytime soon. I know my father has nothing else. His kids are grown and he sees little of his grand-kids. He has no wife to spend time with. He doesn’t have a steady girlfriend much to my knowledge. I can say that it must be in our genes because I follow in my father’s footsteps. Except I didn’t crank out a baby when I was 18 or 19 like he did.
Kai’s father died when he was young. I don’t really know the story, it’s a bunch of rumors and hearsay in the Academy and my father hasn’t been kind enough to tell me the true tale of his father’s demise. Kai was left with his mother who pretty much drank herself into an early grave. So much for superior Venatori healing if you kill your liver faster than it can heal it. That says a lot. But I only know this because of those rumors. I don’t know how much is true of my paternal grandparents.
I know even less of my maternal ones. The only thing I know is that they died in a werewolf attack thus putting my mother squarely in Venatori hands and her destined fortune of becoming a human venatori hunter.
Notice the smaller ‘v’ did you? The Venatori are a race of beings who’s ancestors were called Aeternus. The Aeternus had a group of them who were venatori or hunters. It is these Aeternus who breed themselves into a new race by inter-copulating with other species. They called themselves Aeternus until the Aeternus were eradicated from existence and then it became just The Venatori.
