Well not a new project exactly. AJ’s writing with our lovely cast of characters. It’s a fun little thing we are most enjoying. We have a story to tell. We may or may not share it here. But if you are interested in reading it, AJ’s more than willing to give you a link to the dropbox where you can read the adventure as it unfolds. It’s more story than game, but there are a lot of game elements involved, lots of world building, and wiki and mechanics being created.
The goal is to use the mechanics to create consistent magic mechanics, not over powered main characters and underpowered adversaries. It’s meant to grow with the characters as we tell this story.
And in the process, if we create a world in which you can play a game, with a GM or on your own in solo mode then so be it.
But I like sharing with you. AJ likes giving you tidbits. So we are starting a new project here on at the Mind of Nox. You see over at Story Craft Cafe they started some writing exercises. In which AJ has absolutely fall in love with and we decided we are going to take a few of our daily prompt friends and make a post doing several things — the first is giving you snippets into the world I now live in, the story we want to tell, and AJ gets to try out scenes and phrases and learn more about writing.
It’s oddly funny how good the writing is when you focus on just one word, and making it do something great. Which isn’t how AJ writes, we, and by we, I mean me, the muse. I’m egotistical and impatient and I want the words down so I can move on, and AJ hates editing. So the focus to put the words down means eloquence and grammar aren’t always considered. But in small bits and pieces AJ can do things like that. So AJ is going to put together a list of exercises curate that to the Daily Spur, as either a static list of 31 prompts you can use throughout the month for things like. “Write a simile.” “Write a metaphor.” “Describe something using only one sense.” “Or using all senses except one.” Things like that. A simple challenge to go along with the daily prompts we all know and love.
So maybe Monday we’ll start for real — still need to curate that list of generic writing prompts to use.
But because it’s written and we really liked it. Here is the exercise from today’s SCC prompt:
The sky was dark and dreary, the rain poured down outside the window, lightning flashed illuminating the darkened room beyond. Ant stared out and a flippant voice full of mirth and humor interrupted his thoughts. “How felicitous.” Ryan exclaimed nodding towards the sky outside as he stood next to his friend.
Ant rolled his eyes. “How what now?”
The smirk on Ryan’s face was the only sign that he was messing with Ant. “How felicitous. How perfectly fit the sky is on the night your mother should pass through the gates of hell.”
