Ashbourne

The weather is still cold, but it’s slowly getting warmer with Spring well on its way. The day light hours are as long as those of the night, but the nights are getting shorter. In the Wellsorrow Region, the Shadowfell despair is fading in its cycle. The people of Ashbourne and surrounding areas are feeling happier and it’s easier to shake the despair, and harder to fall under its influence. There is a half moon in the night sky tonight.

Rosana nodded. “I’m looking for a boy about sixteen. Half elf who creates a very special elixir that apparently he brews from Boggle oil. You wouldn’t know where any boggles are?”

Miranda shook her head. “What’s a boggle?”

Rosana giggled, and Miranda placed her hand on top of hers. The slim fingers of the other woman’s hands embraced hers. Her thumb caressed the top of her hand. Warmth blossomed in Rosana’s body. “A boggle is a magical creature that likes to make mischief around areas that are full of despair and melancholy. They would thrive this close to the Leech and the Shadowfell.”

Miranda gave a slight nod. “What else do you know of them?”

“Not much.” Rosana said. “I have friends who might know. A bit of a retailer of information if you’d like.”

Miranda nodded. “Perhaps we should skip out the back here, look for my husband as he ran off after a thief that way and then we can go ask.”

“Your husband?”

Miranda patted Rosana’s hand. “Oh yes, but don’t let our union alarm you. He completely understands.”

Rosana’s eyes were wide, there had been flirting and now consequences of marriage. Confusion swept over her. But the dire need to seek the boy was too great, and Miranda seemed like a good resource. Even if she was a bit of a… there was no good word for what she thought of a woman who used her wiles to get her way.

The red head was wary of her advances and Miranda understood. New city — new dangers. But this woman looked like she could handle herself. And after she offered to help, the woman looked at Miranda with even more caution. A devastating smile swept across Miranda’s lips and she winked with a seductive lick of her lips.

The woman’s gaze dropped, and Miranda offered the other woman her hand. “I’m Miranda. I’ll do anything to help a friend and fellow companion in need.” Miranda smiled again. “Anything.”

The woman shook her head with a bit of an ‘I-cannot-believe-this-is-happening’ look on her face. “Rosana,” she said with a smile. “I don’t suppose having an extra set of eyes on the job would hurt. But we can’t hurt the boy. The repercussions on damage from my boss’s boss would be insurmountable — deadly even.”

A man at a nearby table threw his drink across the table and stood up, shouting. Nothing like throwing a temper-tantrum when your day doesn’t go well at dice. al’Zand was comparable to such a joke. But she had other things to deal with and let the men do whatever it is they would do as long as they stayed over there and away from them.

“Nothing like facing death together.” Miranda joked.
