Ant actually was hungry when we sat down. Dev and I ordered our usual. Ant ordered a rare steak with a three side orders of bacon and four or five eggs. The table was full and we just about needed bigger table when my steak and eggs and Dev’s pancakes with ice-cream arrived with Ant’s huge order.
I watched Ant devour his food. He mumbled through mouth fulls. “I’ve never been so hungry.”
“Maybe it’s more than just the sunlight.” I said.
The fork that was brought to Ant’s mouth froze, a pile of eggs hanging at the end waiting for their final destination. His brown eyes burned holes in me. He growled, “I’m still a vampire.”
I laughed. “Are you sure?”
Ant looked around and flipped his fangs at me with a click. He eyes grew red and he looked hungry. “I am. I could devour your power if I had the mind to.”
I smirked at him and sat back. Dev was wide eyed staring at Ant. In fear? In horror? I don’t know but I put my hand on Dev’s knee for comfort and to touch one of the men I loved. I nodded at Ant. “Calm down and eat monsieur vampire.”
Ant glared at me with fading red eyes and retracted his fangs in another quick click before he returned the fork to his mouth and resumed his eating. I poked at my steak.
Dev was busy with his pancakes and melting ice-cream. I still didn’t know how he did that but it was his favorite and I would indulge him any chance I got.
Ant took a few more bites before he looked at me, “What?”
I shook my head. “Nothing.”
“Nox that’s not nothing.” Ant said point at my steak. “What?”
I shrugged. “You’re appetite for human food has changed. What did that do to your blood lust?”
“You think I can’t control myself?” He asked.
“No, that’s not it. The opposite actually. You stomach rumbled which meant human food right?” Ant nodded so I continued, “Do you need to feed as often or will human food sustain you?”
Ant looked at me and frowned. “My father and grandfather eat more human food than drink blood. Blood powers our magic, our ability to remain immortal and not age. It keeps our bodies from desecating. Are you suggesting I’m full primeval now?”
I shrugged. “I gave you what you lacked to be classified as primeval.”
I nodded and Dev added, “So what you gave me my full potential?”
I shrugged again. “Humans only use a small percentage of their brains, paths considerably more, but not near capacity. Maybe. I don’t know.” I shrugged. “We could speak with Asher Eriksen.”
Ant nodded his agreement and added, “With Doc present.”
“When I get back.” Dev agreed.
“I’ll have Jin make the appointment.” I said. And we all ate and did our thing and then Dev and I said our good-byes. The long kiss good-bye was only stopped by Ant taking my shoulder and walking me through the shadows. “Fucker!” I complained, but he was probably right it was the only way we’d break it up. I was going to miss Dev.
